Choosing towels: how many and what should be in the house
Bath towels How much do you need? For some people, one large towel is enough for all bath procedures, others use three: one for the face and hands, the second for the bath, the third for the legs. Sometimes in the bathroom there is a common towel for all family members for hands and face, and each has its own bath and “foot” towel. However, ideally, there should be four towels for each family member: for the face, for the hands, for the legs and for the body. You may need two more types of towels: beach and massage. What material to choose? Only natural, preferably cotton. The hygroscopicity of a towel is very dependent on the composition of the fabric, even a small admixture of artificial fibers or synthetics drastically reduces the absorbency and, accordingly, the pleasure of bathing. In this case, you should not save: the price of a towel should not be the determining criterion
Cotton. The best cotton for terry cloth is long-staple, Egyptian or Pakistani; the optimal pile length is 4-5 mm. However, the main criterion for the quality of a terry towel is its weight (density): if synthetic fiber is added to natural cotton, the towel becomes light, but wipes worse. Therefore, for good bath towels, the fabric density should be at least 470 g/m², for hand and face towels, 420-440 g/m². Not every seller will be able to give you specific numbers, so just figure it out on your hand: a towel measuring 70 × 140 cm should weigh about 500 grams. Linen. Not very suitable for bathroom towels, but can be used as an additive in cotton fabric for making terry towels. These towels are good to use as massage towels. The patrimony of one hundred percent linen towels and napkins is the kitchen and dining room. Bamboo. Bamboo yarn material is soft, pleasantly cools the skin, besides, the manufacturers claim that towels made from this material are hypoallergenic and have antimicrobial properties (bamboo kun). However, it should be borne in mind that bamboo terry towels dry worse than organic cotton towels. Silk. It makes beautiful and airy towels. You should not buy silk towels for drying the body (they are too thin and get wet quickly, sticking to the skin). But silk towels are great for drying hair. Mixed fabrics. Towels with an admixture of artificial or synthetic fibers absorb moisture worse, but they are bright, light, and wash well. Such terry towels can be used as beach towels, laying on a sun lounger or just on the sand. Slabbinck Fanna set. Kitchen towels How much do you need? Simple everyday logic suggests the number 3: for hands, for dishes and for products. What material to choose? Depending on the purpose of the towel. However, according to the rules of modern hygiene, towels are not needed for tableware - they do not wipe the dishes, but leave them in the dryer so that the water glass itself. A towel is needed only for glass and crystal. Linen. Towels made of this material are harsh, but do not leave fibers. Therefore, it is good to cover the dough and ready-made pastries with linen towels, wipe glass and crystal to a shine; it is convenient to wrap products in them. There is only one drawback - linen is very wrinkled. Microfiber. Absorbs moisture better than cotton fabrics, dries quickly and does not require ironing. A microfiber towel can be used to dry your hands. Paper. Disposable paper towels are increasingly used in modern kitchens, they can dry a piece of meat, get wet washed vegetables or dry your hands. The advantages are hygiene due to single use and, of course, savings in labor and laundry detergents. Cotton. Cotton waffle towels (a Turkish invention, by the way) are great for drying your hands. They are soft, pleasant to the touch, absorb moisture well (three times better than, say, terry towels, however, they get wet faster).
